EURO-NOTES 2008 Report
EURO-NOTES 2008 (Brussels, September 25 – 27, 2008) was the second joint meeting of the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES) and the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) on Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES). Gastroenterologists and surgeons from throughout Europe and beyond, together with participants from the biomedical industry, met to discuss and debate the challenges and obstacles of implementing Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery into clinical practice.
The first evening was dedicated to working group sessions, which were aimed at pinpointing problem areas and considering possible approaches to overcome obstacles. The results of these sessions which were presented on on Saturday morning and can be viewed here.
On Friday, key speakers, both surgeons and gastroenterologists, held lectures on specific topics in an attempt to identify the needs, hurdles and necessary research steps for NOTES and the day was rounded off with abstract presentations.
The EURO-NOTES meeting presented the opportunity to hold a winners’ ceremony for the Ethicon Endo-Surgery Research Fund Project and several of the grant winners gave short overviews of their projects.
